AI writing, book influencers, nepo babies - are you ready to join the wave or become the poor genius?


Back in the day, being an author used to be every introvert's absolute dream, and now? It is every introvert’s absolute nightmare. Because what is supposed to be the hardest part is writing the book. But in this day and age, even if you write better than George Orwell and you are unable to properly market your book, you won’t sell. 

What do publishers do now? They pick already established BookTok accounts that have amassed a following and make ghostwriters write their books. Most writers would rather stay anonymous than let someone else take credit for their work but the prospects outweigh their own ego and thus, they budge. What are the odds that a publisher sees your draft, loves it, and somehow thinks you wouldn’t be a great fit to put forward as the writer—and then encourages you to sell the book to someone else so they can be the “face” of your work because that would somehow drive sales and increase your percentage? Since when did writing become the music industry? Slowly but surely, we are getting there. These days you apply your book to a publisher and/or agent and you would need to fill in long forms. How many followers do you have? How many likes on average does your post amount? How many email addresses do you have? 


The truth is, publishers have the power to independently sell good books. That’s the truth. They already have a portfolio of readers and if the book is great then readers would read it. The truth is why most publishers are unable to sell as much and now have to resort to picking already influential writers is because the public has lost trust in the publishers. You are going to read a book and then sit back and think to yourself, “who approved this?” “How did this make it out of the drafts?” “Did publishers really sit around and think to themselves oh yeah, let’s release this and tag it ‘slow burn.’ How would the public trust you when you are no longer trustworthy? Most times publishing a book is by who you know and no matter how bad a book is, a publisher would still put out these books for nepo babies so that they can keep diluting the arts for the rest of us. Over time, this has led to a long time decay.

The truth is that everything is changing, do you want to be the poor genius or do you want to sell your soul to succeed in this new dawn?
